Towards the end of the first century during which the Catholic Church made its impact on Sarawak, the Catholic population increased significantly that it became necessary to set up new parishes. Physical development in the state led to the emergence of townships and hence, there arose a need to cater for he temporal and spiritual welfare of Catholics moving to live in new towns.
